P2(a) outcome of recce(s)

Meaning & Purpose : In this section, I will show how I used different location to do the filming to try do get the best shot.

All the filming is done inside the Kent College campus. I had used both indoor and outdoor environment to do my filming. All of the area are very ideal for filming especially it is good source of light and noise isolate. More importantly, I don't have to ask permission from teachers to do the filming. All the area are open for students.

In the squash centre, I had only used for boxing exercise. As the squash centre has a large ,wide area. It makes filming much easier as the camera will be able to move around the squash centre. Also the room has a good noise isolation to outside. It gives a quiet environment to do my filming.

The astro will be use to film for outdoor running. The astro had been fitted with spot lights around. It has a bright environment and usually quiet at night time. It will be more convenient for me to film and get a good quality of footage. The ending scene will be also be film in the astro.

I had used the gym room to film my workout exercise. Although the gym room is very tiny and tight, limited movement available inside. All the weight and bar are located in side the gym room. Therefore I had to used the location to film for my footage. All the footage meet my expectation.

Potential Hazard / Risks

As filming process require a very long process to finish. It is very important to identify any risks that I will be facing while filming. Below is the risk assessment, I had listed out everything risks that could possibly happen while filming at both indoor and outdoor, the chance of risk going to happen, consequence and how to prevent it.

Once the risks is been identify, it helps me to reduce chance of being injured, property being stolen or damaged and improve the quality of the footage.

As all the filming were done at the school area. The health and safety issue was the least concern for me as medical centre is just around school. If the actors get injury, I can bring him to the medical centre immediately. Howeve, one of the biggest issue I have to face while filming is the weather. As nearly half of the filming process will be done at the outdoor environment. I have to stay alert with the weather as the weather here is very unstable. I had kept updated with the weather forecast to ensure the filming can be done smoothly.

When the day I was filming. The weather was great, it was slightly winder than usual. The screenshots above shows how the weather be like when I was filming.  If the weather suddenly turn bad, I have to stop all the filming and stay in a safe indoor environment as both actor and camera stuff are number one priority.

In the film, I had took quite a lots of shot with boxing as I think boxing will strongly attract the audience who will watch this genre of advertisement. To achieve this scene, I had asked the actor week before the filming start does he know anything about boxing. Unfortunately the actor doesn't know how to box, therefore I had kindly asked a thai boxing coach from our school to give the actor a quick tutorial lesson. It is very important for my actor know how to box correctly as boxing is a very dangerous sports. Actor has high potential to injury himself if he doesn't know anything about boxing and box while filming.

After the quick tutorial lesson, my actor is so much more confidence and able to punch correctly in the film. It reduce the chance of him getting injury.

The number below is the emergency service nearby in Canterbury. If anything goes badly while filming. I have to phone them and request help if necessary.

Solution of any identified hazard / risk in line with health and safety procedures

I had listed out what most likely to be happen while filming in the risk assessment. To avoid the risks and able to film smoothly. It is important to form a solution which can prevent the risk and going bad.

Risk Assessment

For this scene, I had used the lightest weight from the gym room and place it on the weight bar. Using 15 kg each side of weight is easily able to afford by the actor to lift it up. It prevents and reduces the chance of actor being injury due to the heavy weight lifting.

For this scene, the actor told me that he can not do any weight lifting for the bench press exercise as he has never try it before. Therefore I decided not to put any weight on weight bar and just using a plain bar. To still give a good footage for this scene, I had placed the camera right behind the actor. The camera is now showing the actor is doing the bench press exercise but the showing any weight of  both end. The bar itself is weightless, now I had reduced the chance of actor being injury of heavy weight.

For this scene, the actor is doing workout exercise at the outdoor environment. I had checked the weather forecast many time before the filming process begin as the weather in UK is unpredictable. The weather when I was filming is perfect, there will be no chance of raining for the day. I had no worry for both equipments and actor being damaged or injury.

More importantly, I had specially picked the off peak hours to do the filming at the astro. It helps to reduce chance of actor being hit by football.
